The confounding effects of eye blinking on pupillometry, and their remedy
PLOS ONE, 2021
Pupillometry is a popular tool for studying cognitive and neural processes, but eye blinking can confound measurements by inducing blink-locked pupillary responses (BPR). This study characterized BPR properties, demonstrated their cognitive dependency, and developed a probabilistic algorithm to de-confound pupillary data. The algorithm improves measurement validity and enhances the statistical power of pupillometry experiments.

Transcranial direct current stimulation elevates the baseline activity while sharpening the spatial tuning of the human visual cortex
Brain Stimulation, 2023
The study highlights that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), particularly anodal-tDCS, enhances baseline activity and sharpens spatial tuning in the early visual cortex (EVC) by augmenting surround suppression. These effects are hypothesized to involve upregulation of GABAergic neurons, which increases synaptic inhibition and metabolic energy consumption. This suggests that GABAergic modulation plays a critical role in the circuit-level effects of tDCS on EVC

Determination of Optimal Injection Current Pattern for Multichannel Transcranial Electrical Stimulation without Individual MRI Using Multiple Head Models
Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, 2023
This study proposed a method to improve multichannel transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) focality by averaging injection current patterns optimized across multiple head models. Results showed that using a mean current pattern from at least 13 head models significantly enhanced stimulation focality compared to a single standard model. This approach offers a practical solution when individual MRIs are unavailable.

Are you thinking about friends or money? Spontaneous thought contents reveal the value of social relationships for happiness
OSF, 2024
This study utilized a Free Association Semantic Task (FAST) and Word2Vec-based natural language processing to explore the connection between spontaneous thoughts and happiness. Happier individuals demonstrated stronger semantic associations with “friend,” prioritizing social relationships over monetary gains in decision-making scenarios. These findings emphasize the cognitive representation of social connections as a critical factor in subjective well-being.
